Grovely Woods, the return

Grovely Woods

Friday 25th July 2008

After what seemed like the longest break on earth we finally got back on the trail of investigating the supernatural and I must admit this was an investigation I was half looking forward to and half dreading because it saw us returning to the terribly erie Grovely woods at Wilton.

First though this investigation saw us going to a friend of Maria's (twilight shadows) house who is called Lindsay. She is very privileged to live in one of the houses where the head butler of Wilton house would of lived and also her family has lived in the house before her. We arrived about 9ish and was made to feel very welcome immediately. After drinks and a good old laugh at the tales that Maria and Lindsay get up to at work and a tour of the beautiful house and gardens we decided to get on and start our investigation.

One of the strange things to happen at this house is once upon a time, it used to have a door bell that played the Westminster chime. It was only a battery operated chime and has long since been changed. Every now and then the door bell will chime the westminster chime but it is only now a normal doorbell ring. Poor old Lindsay says she still forgets and goes to answer the door even though she knows, no one will be there. We secretly hoped this would happen while we were there but the phenomena usually only happens during the day and alas it was not too be our lucky night this time.

We started out our investigation in one of the main bedrooms. I must admit straight away in this bedroom I started to feel as if I had been drinking. I felt very uncomfortable and normally when Maria ask's if I want to ask out I am more than happy to but this time I felt very uncomfortable.. Almost like I should not be in there in the first place. We sat there in silence and the longer we were in there the stranger I felt. Sharon opted to sit in a chair in the corner of the room and Maria had commented that she had sat in there previously and felt very strange. Sharon commented on the fact that her face didn't feel like hers, she said she felt like it was morphing into someone else. I suggested she tried scrying (this is where you look into a mirror and try to allow a spirit person imprint their features onto yours) but she didn't seem keen.

Lindsay at this point went off to get James who was desperate to join us despite the fact he had been working and we continued our vigil in the bedroom. It was now that Dave Wicheard (Wessex Paranormal) went out onto the landing and came back. I noticed he was not quite right and asked him if he was OK. He said he was feeling very dizzy. After he left the room again for a few minutes he felt better. In this room both Dave and Chris Prevett (Wessex Paranormal) felt there was a male spirit with us. Dave felt there was army connections with the person.

We decided once Lindsay had returned with James to relocate to the room next to the kitchen. I chose this room. I felt it had the most ambience about it. Apparently this was a good pick as Maria later told me they get a lot of activity in the room on previous investigations.

We decided to try a bit of glass divination to get the energy going and also a bit of table tipping. While this was set up Dave, Sharon Morris (Phoenix paranormal) and myself decided to go back upstairs and take some pictures as Sharon thought she had caught a strange light anomaly. It turns out this was just the reflection of the flash light on the ceiling which was a bit uneven.

Once everyone was ready we rejoined the team and started with the glass. To my amazement the glass started to move even before we had finished talking. It seemed very powerful and excitable the way the glass spun around the table. During the seance we discovered that there was a male spirit with us to begin with and towards the end 2 other spirits joined us, one of which was a relative of Lindsay's who could be very stern in manner.

We decided to now try table tipping. This can take quite sometime to get the energy to build up. I felt on my side that the table kept being pushed down. Sometimes it felt like it would pulse which is something I have experienced before with table tipping. We kept going for a while but I had to step out of the circle because the unnatural way I had to stand to put both hands on the table made me a bit shakey. We decided then to call it a night and relocate to ......................................

GROVELY WOODS!

I think this was what everyone had been waiting for. I will be the first to admit I was very apprehensive of going back. We went to Grovely just before my birthday in May and that time the atmosphere in the woods was absolutely terrifying.

We drove up this awful track and parked up just at the top of the next track that you travel on foot too. We walked up the track and myself and Sharon were chirpy but we were both very nervous. As we neared the entrance of the woods you can feel the atmosphere changing straight away.

You enter the woods via a gate and immediately in front of you is a roman road that runs right through the woods. This time though, even though the woods still felt oppressive it did not feel threatening at all this time though we did notice how still it was.

As we walked down the roman road you really become aware of the woods closing in on you. We continued to walk debating whether this track or that track was the right way to the sacred trees but eventually we found the right one. We soon found the first of the magnificent trees and it was here that Maria and Loretta decided to cast a spell for a family member asking the Handsell sisters assistance in the matter. Once they had set up the circle it was a beautiful sight to see, one that I will cherish and was honoured to witness. Our other mission was to find the fourth tree. Previously we thought there was only 3 sisters but since our last visit I discovered there are in fact 4 sisters and 4 trees.

We cleared up a bit and some of the team stayed behind at the first tree. The rest of us went on with our mission to locate the fourth tree. We found the 2nd and 3rd fine but the 4th is not as close as the others are to each other. I stood shinning my torch in different directions. I shone the torch back onto the 3rd tree and looked at the bark then swung it back in the direction of 11 o'clock to where I was stood. I couldn't see clearly but I just felt this was the right way. I went off, and came to a ditch. I could clearly see the other tree by now and called to the others that I had found it. In my excitement I decided to just leap across the ditch without waiting for anyone and it was mid flight I realised that this ditch was full of water. You guessed it, I landed right in the middle! Once I had cleared the ditch Dave then pointed out that if I had lept just a bit to the right then I would of been dry.. Never-mind. We all admired this tree. To me it felt repressed and left out. We left offerings to this sister and after taking pictures we left her in peace and rejoined the others.

As it was getting very late and we had a long way home we decided to call it a night.

I would like to thank Maria of Twilight shadows for organising this brilliant investigation and thank all the team members who helped make it so magical
