On Saturday 16th February 2013, we were very privileged to be invited to an investigation at the shop Nikita Sablier

We use a few gadgets to help us detect spirits during paranormal investigations and on this occasion Dave and I were trying a new device we had got called a ghost box. A ghost box, spirit box or Frank’s box is a device that scans radio waves. It is thought that spirits are able to use the white noise or influence broadcasting stations to use words to answer any questions and communicate with us. As soon as the device was switched it on, it said a word which sounded like Hula. A voice then said Ben, followed by They’re coming in!

I started to call out to ask if any spirit people could talk to us by using the ghost box. We heard a knock which we thought came from corner of the room. Then a voice from the ghost box said a word but none of us could really tell what it said. I asked, what is your name? The ghost box seemed to reply with the word Hello quite clearly.

We had sat around a craft table that Maria had brought along and were having a discussion among ourselves and felt that the general area was most likely to be haunted. It was also suggested that ghosts from the surrounding area may even be drawn towards us and try and communicate with us. Maria decided this would be a good time to try and call out again to any other spirits nearby us or watching us. As soon as she said that there was a Hello from the ghost box. Dave then asked, “What is your name?” The ghost box replied, Michael. It then sounded like; “Put your coats on” was said. I asked, “Do you want us to leave?” We waited for an answer but nothing else audible was said so we started talking amongst ourselves again. While we were chatting we heard the words “I agree.” Come from the ghost box. I asked, “Is there anything you’d like to tell us?” The voice replied, “Be off!” I said, “Do you want us to leave?” A different voice came through which said “Help me.” There were knocks from both ends of the room and the temperature suddenly dropped. Maria and I felt that there was a dominant spirit trying to keep back a weaker spirit which is why he was trying to get us to go. We got nothing more from our ghost box so decided to switch it off at this point. Andrew also has a ghost box which is a bit different to ours so we decided to try his out.

I asked out to the weaker spirit we were sensing “Please try and step forward and we’ll try and help you.” Maria then asked if it was a female spirit with us. Maria went on to say that the spirit had said that she needed our help, please could she speak to us again?” Maria then told the spirit that she felt the presence of a female spirit every time she came into the shop and wondered if it was her or a different spirit she was sensing? We were all quiet and then heard the sound of a cat. It was very loud and almost sounded if it were right there with us in the room.

I ‘called out’ again. I asked, “What is your name?” A male voice seemed to come from the ghost box and it said clearly, Robert. It repeated a little while later, “Robert, Robert.” Dave and Andrew had EMF meters with them (EMF or electromagnetic field detectors) are sometimes used in investigations to help detect any spirit energy present. Both Dave and Andrew were getting strange readings from the EMF meter. There seemed to be one specific area at the table where we were sitting where the readings were higher. We also heard movement within the room. A voice from the ghost box said, “Save us!” which was quite un-nerving.

Maria called out again. As nothing much seemed to be happening Dave went into a little store room next to the main room we were in and found some rather interesting props to show us. A voice from the ghost box said, “What are you doing?” We had all felt quite strange feelings in that smaller store room too.

We heard a hissing noises from the corner which we assumed would be a boiler/heater or water pipes and I admitted that I had heard that very early on when were first went into the room but after we had investigated the corner, we could find nothing which caused this sound. Expecting to find a boiler or water pipes behind a hidden panel in the wall only revealed a hidden window. There was also a definite cold spot in the room but we couldn’t discover why. There did not seem to be any draughts.

I called out again asking for the spirits to make another noise but nothing much was happening. Maria and I were leaning on the table and not really taking much notice at this point. We were not sitting in the usual position of hands flat on the table but we both realised that for a while, the table had actually been moving all the while we were talking amongst ourselves. As we realised this, the table started pulsing. I asked if the spirit could tap under the table and answer questions in this way. The table tapped. I asked, “If they were happy, could they tap the table again? The table tapped. We asked the spirit to try to talk through the ghost box. A female voice said, “What is your name?” I said, “My name is Jacky.” The ghost box repeated this question and there was also another tap on the table.

I asked if the spirit had tried to reach Maria when she has been in the shop before. A voice from the ghost box clearly said, “Yes.” I could feel an energy building up and mentioned this. Maria told the ghost that she had been aware of her previously and requested that she tapped the table three times to confirm this, which it did. The table then started to move. There was a knocking sound coming from the corner of the room. I asked if the spirit was happy. We assumed it was not happy as it tapped on the table twice indicating ‘No.’ This spirit seemed very strong but suddenly the energy dispersed and left us. The room seemed to of got very cold during this as well.

I could feel a different spirit building up behind me again but a much different energy with a very different feel. This spirit brought a cold chill with it and we all felt that it was male. We asked if the spirit was linked to the building we were in and it said yes. I felt as if the spirit was annoyed that we had placed the table in the middle of the room. We asked for his name and the ghost box said Robert very clearly. We also heard the name David but we also heard the name Robert again. I asked a lot of questions, “Did you work here? Did you die here? Is this the same building that you knew? Was there a fire? Do you want to move on? Are you looking for someone? Are you here because of a love affair, a business, a daughter? Are you aware that you are dead?” This provoked a response of “Yes.” I asked, “Are you aware of other spirits here?” We received a “Yes.” I asked, “Here?” Ghost box, “Yes.” What about from other buildings near here, are you aware of spirits from other buildings?” We were told “Yes."

Dave felt cobwebs around his face which usually indicates to him that there is a female spirit close by. We felt that this was a different spirit from a different building. The EMF meter started giving strange readings again. We decided to go back to the table and try to conduct a séance. The EMF reader was still giving a high reading even though it had previously been showing normal readings in the exact same place earlier. We could all hear little knocking sounds coming from all around us in the room.

We called out and there was a loud knocking noise to the side of us. To begin with we could not quite make out what we were being given but we were aware that although a spirit was trying to contact us, I felt it wasn’t entirely happy about us being there. Eventually, the spirit told us to “Go”. I replied to this that the spirit who had contacted us prior to that was really nice and wanted to talk to us and suggested that if this spirit didn’t want to speak to us, maybe it should leave. The spirit didn’t like this at all and said, “No!” Earlier, when I had been asking lots of questions at the spirits, I had asked about a fire although I wasn’t sure why I had asked this. Interestingly, this spirit just said the word, “Fire!” I started to get a strong impression that I knew what had taken place so I asked, “Was it with a candle?” We were then given the name, “John King.” Then the spirit left us. As he was leaving, I said, “Goodbye John King, it’s been a pleasure.”

I sensed the energy changing again and another spirit joined us. I felt that this spirit was female and she quickly started to give us words.

She said: “Mary. Lost. Past. Lost. My Marc. Must go. Past. Door past. Murder me.”

Me: “He murdered you Mary?”

Mary: “Yes.”

Me: “How?”

Mary: “Pierce.”

Me: “Did he stab you?”

Mary: “My heart.”

Me: “Did he stab you physically?” (We were wondering if Mary meant pierced her heart in an emotional sense).

Mary: “Yes.”

Me: “Did this happen in Salisbury?”

Mary: “Marc. Justice. Need justice.”

Me: “Is this connected to this place? Did you live here?”

Mary: “No.”

me: “Did you work here?”

Mary: “Yes.”

We felt at this point Mary had become very upset and did not want to tell us the nature of her work but she did give the impression that she may have been working in a house of ill repute.

The energy changed again and we then became aware of a spirit child called Zachary who wanted to communicate with us. He wanted us to know that his body was in a tower (not in the building we were in.) We weren’t entirely sure that he had not also been connected to the person Marc that Mary was telling us about. We had no idea where this tower was and thought that maybe Zachary may mean the cathedral spire or whether he was murdered inside a tower or whether his remains were still inside the tower. However, the spirit boy was very anxious and gave us the impression his body was not given a proper burial and we were worried that the spirit was setting us an impossible task of finding his body. We managed to find out that the boy spirit wished to move on so we conducted a simple ceremony and send this child to the light. We all felt very emotional when he finally passed over.

We decided to take a small break at this point.

We could hear a knocking sound from the far end of the room which felt like the spirits were eager to continue with us. We sat back around the table again with our hands resting lightly on the table. We called out again for any spirits present to make contact with us. There was knocking sounds coming from the table and the table started moving and lifting. It seemed that the knocking came from one end and it felt like the table was pushed from the other end. Suddenly the table pushed right up against Dave, pinning him in his chair and then actually pushed his chair backwards. Dave tried pushing the table back; he had to push really quite hard.

The room started to get very cold again and we could really feel a presence building up close by. We could hear a lot of tapping from underneath the table and then something sounded like it shot across the floor in the other side of the room. We later found hair pins on the floor but when we tried throwing them across the floor they did seem to make the same noise. There was a loud knocking sound and we heard movement from corner of the room. It sounded very much like a footstep but as if the foot was stuck to the floor by something sticky. There was also a noise by the stairs, the table moved and we heard footsteps right by us.

Andrew heard a rustling sound in the corner which he thought sounded like clothes being moved. A spirit was doing something in the middle of the table

At this point Dave suddenly jumped. He felt that the area right in front of him was icy cold. We all felt this area and also noticed that there was a distinct change in temperature. We felt that there were several spirit people standing around the table. Maria asked one of the spirits to knock out how many spirits there were. There were seven distinct knocks. We were a little alarmed that there could be as many as seven spirit people stood amongst us.

The table moved suddenly down towards Dave quite forcibly again. Maria asked if the spirit could make a different noise and we heard a strange noise which sounded like rapid finger rapping. We heard a knock in each of the empty spaces around the table. Maria knocked out different sequences which it copied. Maria also felt her hair being tugged. Dave felt a light touch on his shoulder. We all heard a noise on the stairs but we could all see that nothing was there. The table moved again and we all heard a strange groan really close to the table.

Loretta suddenly jumped and said that she had seen a reflection in the mirror. At the same time, I also saw a shadow walk by the wall. I also felt that I was being touched. It was kneading her calf and also prodding her in the back. I felt this was slightly unnerving and asked for this to stop.

The room felt like it had suddenly gone darker. We heard a really loud noise from somewhere in the room and then Dave said that he had heard the screechy cat noise again. There was another loud noise which made me and Loretta jumped forward. Andrew said that he suddenly felt frozen. The table continued knocking and moving around of its own accord for ages. Dave said that he could smell burning and at the same time, myself and Loretta said that we could really smell porridge. Andrew and Maria said they couldn’t smell anything. We were all sitting back and not touching the table except for me and Maria. We were both sort of leaning on it. We were very surprised to discover it started moving from side to side even though we were not touching it. Maria (and I both very amused but also shocked at this) asked the spirits to move the table with some force and to really shove it and it did. We then asked for the table to move Maria while she was sitting in her chair. It did but not in a forceful way.

We then heard a growling noise which came from the stairs

We were still really amused by the table moving without us all sitting in the “correct” positions for table tipping and had an idea. We both lay on top of the table to see if the table would be able to move with us on top of it. We really didn’t think that anything would happen so we both climbed onto the table and lay downwards on our fronts. To our surprise the table did move once but it was only the once with us both on. I decided to get off and left Maria on the table. The feeling in the room felt very light hearted at this point and we got the impression that the spirit person seemed to enjoy what we were doing. We all had a turn at taking a ride on the ghostly table and the table managed to move with one of us on it. We decided after this that it was a good time to finish the investigation. Whilst we were packing up we all heard something being thrown in the end of the room where the clear seats were. On investigation, we did not find anything out of the ordinary.
